As per a study published in the journal “Sex Roles: A Journal of Research,” it has been found that among young heterosexual men, there exists a strong desire for cuddling and hugging as expressions of affection, while kissing is viewed as another means of showing emotional connection. The study involved interviews with 30 undergraduate men, most of whom identified as heterosexual, from four different sport-degree programs at a university in the UK. The research participants revealed their perspective on the importance of physical closeness in their friendships. They described scenarios where they would “lie in bed with their friends, share a cuddle, and engage in conversations.” For some, this kind of connection was akin to having a “cuddle buddy.” Others considered cuddling, hugging, and light-hearted sexual humor as integral components of their male friendships.
This recent study corroborates findings from a 2012 study, where 89% of 145 surveyed undergraduate heterosexual men reported having kissed another man on the lips. According to one participant, kissing between guys is prevalent as a way to express affection in their generation. Some of them not only hug and kiss but also openly share expressions of love. In addition to these forms of physical affection, some participants mentioned their comfort level with nudity and the existence of “bromances” in their social circles. They described scenarios where they would casually walk around naked and feel at ease in the presence of their housemates, emphasizing the camaraderie and openness within their friendships. –
