Spanish photography artist Alberto Cordón has a real appreciation for the erotic masculine. For Cordón, “the naked male body is already sensual in itself,” but his photography is less about revealing everything than allowing desire to unfold slowly. “I like to suggest things, because as a spectator I prefer to imagine. When they show you everything, the magic is lost.” A glance, a mouth, a glimpse of skin or the shape of a body can sometimes say far more than complete exposure. Trust is central to his work. “The greater the trust, the greater the connection, and all of that is reflected in the final result.” He welcomes the ordinary male body rather than chasing perfection: “All bodies are welcome.” And perhaps that is what makes his photographs so honest — they celebrate the simple pleasure of being seen. As Cordón puts it, “We all have the same thing. We come into the world without clothes and we will disappear in the same way.” In between those two moments, there is a whole lifetime of bodies, desire, vulnerability and pleasure to photograph.
