“I took one breath of His spirit and I vanished.
Yet now that I’ve returned, I see two:
The Master and the Servant, laughing,
And then merging back into One.”
Beautiful quote and gorgeous man, to master and to serve. Where is the quote from? It’s a mystical Sufi idea that I’m familiar with from studying Sufism and literature in Java. The late Ben Anderson wrote a marvelous essay about an episode in a long Javanese Sufi poem from the early nineteenth century, in which a “master” fucks a handsome male dancer, a “servant,” who persuades him that he, the “master,” will know nothing about the true pleasures of sex if he doesn’t allow himself to be fucked in return. The “servant,” with his huge, glorious cock, fucks and humbles his “master” with consummate skill. I’ve uploaded a pdf of Anderson’s essay for those who are interested. AJ
