“The Great Tamer” (2017) is a work by Dimitris Papaioannou, renowned for its visually stunning and artistically profound exploration of the human experience. Papaioannou’s signature blend of choreography, visual art, and theatricality creates a mesmerizing tapestry of movement and emotion. Each scene unfolds like a living tableau, inviting viewers to journey through a dreamscape of symbolism and metaphor. “The Great Tamer” continues to inspire and provoke audiences around the world, reaffirming Papaioannou‘s status as a visionary artist.
Did anyone see “The Great Tamer” when it was performed in London in January this year? There are performances coming up in Athens (22-26 April) and Paris (13-15 May). https://www.dimitrispapaioannou.com/en/recent/the-great-tamer. One reviewer called Papaioannou the “Beckett of dance”! This comment makes me wonder what a Beckett play would be like performed in the nude! The way Papaioannou dramatises the beauty of the strong male body, its vulnerability and destructibility, is powerfully moving to watch.
Magnificent!!!
Intriguing, freedom of impression…. an artsy dream sequence …..
Wonderful.
