“There is an invisible strength within us; when it recognizes two opposing objects of desire, it grows stronger. As soon as it resolves, one of the objects melts like salt crystal in water.” . – Rumi
That “invisible strength” is the soul’s quiet power, the erotic self, the heart that knows what it wants even when the mind is confused. Sometimes we are torn between two desires—one perhaps safe and socially acceptable, the other taboo. That inner pull, that conflict, is not weakness—it’s fuel. Rumi is telling us that in the wrestling of these opposites, our deepest truths start to shine. When we stop fighting ourselves, and surrender to what we truly want—what turns us on in our bones—something false dissolves, like salt in water.
That looks like 30-35 pounds being “lifted”.
This quote captures the essence of inner conflict and growth, suggesting that when we face competing desires, our inner strength develops. It hints at the idea of resolution and choice, where resolving the inner conflict allows clarity to emerge, and the lesser desire dissipates.
