Priapus, the god of fertility and abundance, with a scale and bag of money, depicted on the wall of an ornate house owned by two men in ancient Pompeii — freed slaves who became extremely successful wine merchants, Aulus Vettius Restitutus and Aulus Vettius Conviva. Their House of the Vettii was buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD79; it was rediscovered in the late 19th century, and has been reopened to the public after complex restoration work. – Source : The Guardian
I’ve seen the images that decorate this house frequently online. I suspect anything that so unabashedly celebrates the penis is considered outright blasphemy and a candidate for social ostracism in our current schizophrenic society. From what I recall, the image is Priapus, also god of male sexual energy, weighing his huge member. He is the subject of a number of ribald poems of the time.
I thank Priapus for my cock and pay homage to him with my seed
