The word “shaman” is quite interesting. Originally from the Tungusic шаман (shaman), it entered English through German anthropologists. It has encountered some challenges, particularly stemming from the Lewis Henry Morgan’s “all primitives are the same” approach in anthropology, which was prominent in the 19th century. This perspective persisted in Russia, partly due to the necessity of a hierarchy of development for Marxism. It should be noted that to get to that point, one had to behave in a feminine way as well, including being penetrated. Non-penetrative sex between males, such as mutual masturbation, from, Oxford style, docking…all that was just seen in most cultures as the norm, no big deal, something that at least unmarried men do, but penetration implied a gender role. – Jon
